Basic immunology

1) Natural killer (NK) cell biology. We are particularly interested in the receptors used by NK cells to control viral infections and tumors, and how they mediate tolerance to self.

2) Innate immune responses to infection. We are especially interested in immunity to herpesviruses such as cytomegalovirus and the roseoloviruses.

Human immunology

1) Immune profiling of inflammation using cytometry by time of flight (CyTOF, aka mass spectrometry) and single-cell RNA sequencing with T cell receptor and antibody sequencing. Current diseases of interest include uveitis and neuro-sarcoidosis.

2) Human NK cell responses in humanized mice with Liang Shan, PhD in Center for Human Immunology and Immunotherapy Programs. We are currently working on NK cell control of HIV, and HIV arthropathy.
