At the forefront of providing comprehensive care for individuals with inflammatory eye disorders, the Ocular Clinic at WashU Medicine collaborates closely with the Department of Ophthalmology. The clinic specializes in addressing conditions such as uveitis, scleritis, and orbital inflammation that may occur alongside systemic rheumatologic disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthritis, sarcoidosis, or vasculitis. Through a collaborative and sequential consultation approach, the clinic offers co-management of patients. During a visit to the Ocular Clinic, a team of doctors and support staff conducts a thorough evaluation, employing various tests and tailoring personalized treatment plans to meet individual needs.

Patients who have already received care from WashU Medicine Ophthalmology and require further evaluation for their inflammatory eye diseases are ideal candidates for the Ocular Clinic. The clinic welcomes both new and established patients. New patients are evaluated by the rheumatology services during their initial office visit, referred by their treating WUSM ophthalmologist. For follow-up consultations, established patients typically have appointments with both ophthalmology and rheumatology on the same day at the same location. It’s important for patients to anticipate separate co-pays, as they will be seen by two different providers while benefitting from their complementary expertise.

Under the leadership of Dr. Michael Paley, the director, and the unwavering support of Dr. Iris Lee and Dr. Sana Kang, the Ocular Rheumatology Clinic is committed to delivering expert care and tailoring individualized treatment plans that optimize ocular health and overall well-being. Together, this dedicated team of providers ensures that patients receive comprehensive support and guidance throughout their treatment journey.
