Lisa Zickuhr MD, Colin Diffie MD, and Amber Deptola MD, in collaboration with John Metzler MD and Nathan Olafsen MD, received a Small Projects Grant from Washington University’s Medical Education Research Unit. The grant supports a multi-disciplinary group of internists, physiatrists, and rheumatologists to develop and gather validity evidence for a tool that assesses the performance of knee and shoulder injections.
Data indicate that general internists are performing fewer joint arthrocenteses and injections, which can delay the care of patients with arthritis. Once developed, this tool will lay the foundation for future education projects targeted to improve health care providers’ competence with the procedure and patients’ outcomes.
