Rheumatology mourns the loss of Dr. Richard Brasington

Dear colleagues and friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the sudden passing of Dr. Richard Brasington, Professor Emeritus of Medicine and beloved former Director of the Fellowship Training Program, Division of Rheumatology at Washington University School of Medicine (1996-2019). Dr. “B”, as we liked to call him, was a friend and mentor to several generations of rheumatologists who will forever remember him as a fierce advocate and a dedicated teacher. The Richard Brasington Teaching Award was established in 2019 upon Rick’s retirement and has been voted on annually by the fellows to recognize a faculty who embodies Dr. B’s dedication to teaching and mentorship.

Up to the very last minute, Rick was doing what he loved most, fishing!

Please keep Rick’s family, especially his beloved wife Kitty in your thoughts and prayers. More details regarding funeral arrangements will be forthcoming.
